The Pension Fund and VC roundtable at the European Commission

Building the Future of Europe Together

50 leading asset managers, collectively managing over €3 trillion, gathered at the 🇪🇺 European Commission’s Berlaymont to shape the future of Europe’s investment landscape.

Half of the participants represented the pension fund industry, while the other half came from the venture capital and growth ecosystem – bringing together long-term institutional capital and Europe’s most dynamic innovation investors.

These two partners – together with the involvement of the national funds of funds from many European countries – see the strategic value of working together and, in many cases, are already doing so to back Europe’s start-ups and scale-ups. The aim: to create both shareholder and pensioner value, while building a strong and resilient European innovation ecosystem and economy.

🌍 The dialogue was co-chaired by Kerstin Jorna, Director General of DG GROW, and Prof. Mark Ferguson, with active participation from Commission cabinets including the cabinet of EVP Stéphane Séjourné and of Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva, and colleagues from DG RTD and DG FISMA.

We were proud to see 22 EU nationalities represented, as well as participants from several associated countries, including the 🇬🇧 UK, 🇳🇴 Norway, and 🇮🇸 Iceland.

At its core, this is a win–win:

✔️ More asset growth and stronger returns for pensioners
✔️ More capital to build the engines of Europe’s innovation economy

This kind of dialogue is essential to ensure Europe remains globally competitive, mobilising capital for growth, innovation, and sustainability. ✨

🌟 The win-win:
Secure Pensions.
Stronger Europe.
Shared Prosperity.
